This section features my level design work on Natural Selection 2's Biodome and Eclipse maps. My work here was largely detail, lighting and polish work. In addition, I worked with our Art Director Cory Strader and our partners at Fox3D to develop a visual feel for Eclipse, and coordinate taking that from concept art to a modular art set for use by level designers. Additional level design work by the NS2 team.
At various points during development of Natural Selection 2, I was asked to create 2D artwork to support the level environments, particularly large high-tech displays. Veil was a remake of the original Half-Life mod's level, which featured a lot of huge screens showing detailed information. To create the new NS2 level, new versions of these were needed. Descent also required something similar in order to push the high-tech feel, although in this case the focus was on holographic images that could be used in various configurations throughout the map. Principal level design work on Veil was by Shawn Snelling and on Descent by Jake Smith.
Natural Selection 2 is an immersive, multiplayer shooter that pits aliens against humans in a strategic and action-packed struggle for survival. It seamlessly combines a shooter/FPS gameplay with a strategy (RTS) game.
