Level design for Subnautica's Blood Kelp regions. This was such an interesting and engaging biome to work on, since there was only one small concept piece for the big kelp plants, and very few useful photo references. That gave me a lot of leeway to figure out what the biome should look like, and how it should work. We then, later in development, added a larger blood kelp area that was shallower; a great chance to push the theme even further. It's great to have a lot of concept art and references, but sometimes it's a lot of fun just to dive in and see what happens.
Subnautica is a BAFTA-nominated open world survival exploration game set on an alien ocean planet. After crash-landing, you must learn to survive, develop technology, dive deeper, and ultimately learn the secrets of this strange world.
